TOKYO – All-new Toyota Land Cruiser akan dijual di dunia mulai musim panas 2021. Kehadiran generasi baru Toyota Land Cruiser ini sekaligus menandai perayaan ulang tahun ke-70 kehadirannya.
Sejarah Toyota Land Cruiser dimulai pada Agustus 1951 dengan nama BJ. Model ini dikembangkan untuk digunakan oleh National Police Reserve (Kepolisian Nasional Jepang). Meskipun National Police Reserve tidak menggunakannya, tapi diadopsi sebagai mobil patroli oleh cabang-cabang lokal dari Badan Kepolisian Nasional Jepang. Model itu menjadi kendaraan pertama yang mendaki ke pos pemeriksaan keenam Gunung Fuji. Nama kendaraan diubah menjadi Land Cruiser pada tahun 1954. Produksi generasi pertama tersebut dihentikan pada Januari 1956.
Sejak saat itu hingga kini penjualan kumulatif Toyota Land Cruiser di dunia melebihi 10,4 juta unit. Model ini dijual di 170 negara.
All-new Toyota Land Cruiser 300 series (pengganti 200 series) dibangun di atas platform GA-F baru berbasis TNGA dengan tetap mengadopsi struktur rangka, yang merupakan fondasi yang melindungi esensi model ini. Selanjutnya, Toyota mendesain ulang karakternya dengan menggabungkan teknologi yang terakumulasi selama bertahun-tahun dengan teknologi terbaru, untuk mencapai perbaikan seperti pengurangan berat kendaraan (lebih ringan 200 kg), menurunkan pusat gravitasi, adopsi powertrain baru, dan desain interior dan eksterior baru.
Untuk lebih meningkatkan kinerja off-road, sejumlah pengembangan dan teknologi baru diadopsi:

- Peningkatan kinerja road-holding (mencengkeram-jalan) melalui adopsi E-KDSS (Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System) (pertama di dunia)
- Adopsi Monitor Multi-Terrain, yang secara instan menampilkan rintangan-rintangan seperti yang dilihat dari sudut pandang pengemudi
